Memorial for David Morgan

On Friday, 19 May 2023, at 1300 hours, we gathered in the Memorial Pavilion at the USAF Academy Cemetery for David Morgan’s Memorial Service.

David’s first operational assignment after pilot training was to Wurtsmith AFB, Michigan to fly B-52s. While there, he met Mary Lou who was teaching school. They married in 1966. After leaving active duty, David flew for the Pittsburgh Air National Guard and for Allegheny Airlines/US Airways. After retirement, he and Mary Lou returned to where they`d met in Oscoda, MI, where David founded a business and was active in the community. A few years later, they moved to Texas.

David`s wife of more than 55 years, Mary Lou, and their two sons, Matthew `90 and Michael `94 were present in the front row. Attending with Matthew `90 were his wife, Laura, and their children, Brooke, Luke, and Blake ’25. Along with Michael and his wife, Tiffany, both members of the USAFA Class of 1994, were their children, Connor and Sarah. Grand-Nephew Max Wong, who had lived with Matthew and Laura, and had spent a lot of time with David, attended, as well.

As I worked through those names, I thought that David was the head of quite a USAFA family. His choice of attending USAFA in 1959 became critical in the direction everyone else ended up following in their lives.
