The memorial service for Jerry and Yvonne Thies was held midafternoon on Friday, 12 July 2019 at the USAF Academy Cemetery. With forecast temperatures in the low 90s (compared to it having just snowed last time we were at the cemetery), I feared it could be a brutal afternoon. However, the clouds did come in and made the weather quite tolerable for the ceremony honoring Jerry and Yvonne.

This may have been our 1st double ceremony, as both the urns were interred in the same site. Also, they have an impressive double marker of a style which I had not seen previously at the cemetery. A number of members of Jerry’s family were present along with, I believe, 15 members of the Class of 1963 and spouses. All gathered for a group picture, which you will see a couple of versions of at the end of the main photo section. You’ll also see that our own Hank Hoffman presented the American flag to Jerry and Yvonne’s son, Chris.

As with many places in America, we’ve had a moister spring than usual, so the cemetery and surrounding trees were more beautiful than usual
