Alfred Edgar Beauchemin III was born in 1939 in Middleborough, Massachusetts, and grew up in Wareham, Massachusetts, the son of Alfred Edgar Beauchemin Jr. and Yvonne Virginia Ricker Beauchemin.

Fred graduated from the Air Force Academy and went on to earn a master's degree in industrial engineering. Over a career in Air Force uniform, he became known for his visionary leadership in the field of military engineering, commanding the 652nd Civil Engineering Squadron at McClellan Air Force Base from 1986 to 1993, with additional postings including Thailand, South Korea, and Germany. His decorations included the Legion of Merit, four Meritorious Service Medals, and two Air Force Commendation Medals, and he was recognized by his peers with the Newman Medal as the most outstanding military engineer worldwide. He retired as a Colonel in 1993.

Following his military retirement, Fred founded an engineering consulting firm with international and U.S. operations, and went on to extended work with disaster relief programs including the Red Cross and FEMA. He returned to Lynn Haven, Florida in 1997, where he served on the Bay County Planning Commission and was an active environmental advocate in every community where he lived.

Fred married Georgia Gettman Beauchemin. They had two children, Cyrette Beauchemin Smith (married to Christopher) and Gage Beauchemin (married to Brooke). He was predeceased by his sister, Sally Beauchemin, and is remembered by siblings Anne Beauchemin St Germaine and Michael Beauchemin.

An avid outdoorsman, Fred loved sailing, flying, photography, fly fishing, deep-powder skiing, and scuba diving, alongside his devotion to his wife and children.

Alfred Edgar Beauchemin III died July 11, 2021, in Panama City, Florida, at the age of 81.
