Bill served in the civil engineering squadron at the following SAC bases during his brief Air Force career.

1963 - 1966:  Carswell AFB, Fort Worth, Texas

Soon after reporting to Carswell, Bill attended a nine-week Civil Engineering course at the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.  This allowed us to reunite with some of our Academy friends, recently married couples with whom we  spent many happy hours listening to AF football games and learning to play Bridge.

Back at Carswell, regular duty began.   Bill wasted no time in getting to know his fellow officers, his NCO's and the airmen in the squadron.  He picked everyone's brain, and created a good rapport with those who reported to him, and those he reported to.  He learned from all, and built up morale land trust.

Bill devoted much of his free time to playing and coaching squadron football and basketball teams.  He also taught a college Algebra class for Texas Christian University to airmen there on the base.  In order to get his master of science degree, Bill applied for a program called "Bootstrap" which allowed him to attend SMU's graduate school full time by paying for school himself, but allowing us to live in base housing and draw his regular AF pay.  It also extended his commitment for service to six years rather than four.

August, 1966 - June 1968: Goose Bay AFB, Goose Bay, Labrador, Canada
