Colonel Schuman was born July 7, 1939 in Decatur, IL and came from a very large family (nine brothers and 2 sisters).  He enlisted in the Air Force in 1957 and was sent to Yale University language school to become a Chinese linguist. He was nominated to the AF Academy Class of 1963 where he was an excellent student and outstanding athlete.  After pilot training at Vance AFB in Enid Oklahoma, Jimmie transitioned to helicopters and flew as a gunship pilot supporting special ops in Vietnam. He was high decorated and returned stateside to fly in support of Red Flag and other activities at Nellis AFB in Nevada. In 1972 Jimmie transitioned to flying the C-5 Galaxy then was selected to get an Aeronautical  Masters degree after which he returned to flying the C-5. After a couple of high level staff jobs he became a well regarded maintenance officer supporting C-130 airlift operations from Grenada to Bosnia. His final assignment was as head of logistics for the 322nd Airlift Division at Ramstein AB, Germany.

Colonel retired Jimmie D. Schuman died at home in Maryland on September 18, 2013.
