SCOTTY SEWARD USAFA 1963 BIO

After 223 missions & 11 months (39 North Vietnam missions), my wife Gail & I were stationed at the 36th TAC Wing, Bitburg AFB, Germany for the next 3 years. 

I went through an in-Squadron upgrade to the front seat of the F4.  We flew cross-country & NATO missions all over Europe at 500 feet low-levels at 500 knots simulating nuclear weapons deliveries. While at Bitburg I obtained my MS degree  from USC through the Base Education Center.  The winter months were spent on 24-hour Victor Alert on base and rotation to Wheelus AFB, Libya for weapons delivery training. 

We were fortunate to see the evidence of the Roman occupation of Libya from 100 BC to AD 400 at Leptis Magna, perhaps the world's most spectacular archaeological site outside of Rome.  The February 2013 issue of National Geographic has great photos of this site.

We separated from the Air Force in November 1969.  After a brief tour of duty as an Air Traffic Controller I flew the RF-101 VooDoo's with the Kentucky Air Guard and was employed at the Hughes Human Factors & Display lab in Culver City, CA.

Western Airlines started hiring pilots again in the spring of 1972, and I was a new hire June 6, 1972.

Sixteen years later, Western was bought by Delta Airlines in a friendly merger.   I retired from Delta while on extended disability due to a heart blockage which cost me my First Class Flight status.

In June, 1988, Gail & I purchased Birch Shores with 2 rental guest cottages on Glen Lake, Michigan. We have spent many happy days there with close family and friends.  We were able to have several mini-reunions with our Fightin' Fourth Classmates there and hope to have many more in the years to come.   We still winter in the same cul-de-sac in Irvine, California and spend the spring-summer-fall seasons at Glen Lake in Michigan.

Gail & I have had lots of enjoyment and some heart aches along the way raising, training and running AKC Field Trials and Hunt Tests with our Labrador Retrievers.

Our Labs have qualified for 17 US & Canadian National Championships over the years.  Our gal "Phanny" was the 2nd hi-point yellow Amateur female in 2012.   Our chocolate boy "VooDoo" was the top 2-year old chocolate Derby Lab in 2012.
