Class of 1963 - Gone But Not Forgotten

The U.S. Air Force Academy Association & Foundation has recently learned of the death of Col. (Ret.) Richard E. Guild, CS-15, Class of 1963. Col. Guild passed away on July 8, 2026, in Annandale, Virginia.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Aug. 31, 2026, at the Memorial Pavilion at the USAFA Cemetery, 3024 Parade Loop, USAF Academy, Colorado.
His family has suggested memorial donations be made in lieu of flowers to GiGi's Playhouse or Special Olympics.
OBITUARY:
Richard 'Dick' Guild, Colonel, United States Air Force (Retired), passed away
peacefully on July 8, 2026, in Northern Virginia. He was 86 years old.
Dick was born on December 27, 1939, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His parents were Hillis E
Guild and Irene Reisinger Guild. He has three sisters: Jacqueline (deceased); Jean (his
twin) and younger sister - Geniel (affectionately known as Aunt Jo). He attended the
United States Air Force Academy, graduating with the Class of 1963. He married Alice
Glim on the same day he graduated. He completed pilot training and fulfilled his lifelong
dream of becoming a fighter pilot.
During his distinguished 25-year military career, Colonel Guild served multiple combat
tours in Vietnam, flying fighter aircraft in defense of his country. He was an American
fighter pilot, an American warrior, and a proud patriot who served with courage, honor,
and unwavering dedication. His military service reflected his deep commitment to duty,
excellence, and the men and women with whom he served.
After retiring from the United States Air Force in 1987, Dick began a second career as a
consultant in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, where he continued to apply his
leadership and expertise for many years. He was so pleased to have worked at Stavatti
Aerospace and served on the Board of Directors as the Director of Military Aerospace.
He is survived by his two sons, Doug Guild (Nanette) and David Guild (Kellie); five
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He leaves behind a legacy of service,
integrity, and love of country that will continue to inspire his family for generations.
Colonel Guild will be laid to rest with military honors at the United States Air Force
Academy Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to
Gigi's Playhouse or Special Olympics, organizations that enrich the lives of individuals
with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
